Today we ventured to the Skirball Cultural Center for the Stephen Wise preschool service. It was led by the youngest rabbi at our synagogue who has a 14 month old daughter. It was a refreshing 30 minute service filled with songs, stories, and tons of very young kids. Isaac played on the floor, shared his toys with the rabbi's daughter, and seemed to enjoy the blowing of the shofar. We really enjoyed our high holidays this year, and both of us agreed it felt great to be part of a new congregation.
Having a son has renewed my connection to Jewdiasm, and has reminded me of what a huge role it played in my upbringing. For our family it is the cultural aspects of being jewish that we most connect to. Food, family, song. The visceral and etherial. The soulful jourey; being part of something much bigger than ourselves. A reminder to live humbly and give often. Most importantly, a tie that binds generations.
